Why speaking stalls

Many learners who pass a B1 reading test still freeze when a clerk asks a follow-up question. The usual reason is practice time. A group class shares its speaking time among everyone in the room, and a tandem partner rarely corrects the same mistake twice.

So the partner in Langvie is always available and corrects every sentence. You speak, it answers in German, and you can go on for as long as the conversation holds.

Corrections you can read

After each turn you get your own sentence back with the wrong word struck through and the right one beside it. Under it comes a better version of the whole sentence and one or two lines on why. In one conversation, "ich habe gestern nach Hause gegangen" came back with habe struck out and bin in its place. The note under it said that verbs of movement build the Perfekt with sein.

Good sentences get a short "Good job", which matters because knowing what already works is half of speaking with confidence.

Exam tasks or everyday talk

You can work through the speaking tasks of the ÖIF and Goethe exams, such as introducing yourself, describing a photo, or planning something together with a partner. Or you can talk about your weekend. The partner speaks in the accent of the exam's country, so an ÖIF task is answered in Austrian German, with the Austrian words that come with it.

A record of everything you have said

The Analytics panel reads all of your conversations at once. It shows how many you have had, how many turns you took and how many came out right. Below that, a bar for each kind of mistake shows where most of them fall: case, haben or sein, articles, verb forms, word order, or missing words. Open a bar and it lists what you said and what it should have been.

That list is the most useful page to read before an exam, because it names your mistakes rather than the textbook's.

Single words, scored

Pronunciation practice also works on a single word. On any flashcard, hold the microphone and say the word back. The card scores what came out and names the sound that was weakest. Scoring currently works with the Germany accent.

What beta means here

The partner needs a connection, because it answers from a server. Conversations are kept as text, so you can read them back under Recent, and no recording of your voice is stored with them.
